Principal's Message, January 2018
Dear Floris Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed time with family and friends this winter break. We are proud of our students’ work and progress in the first several months of the school year. Be sure to keep talking to your children about what they’ve learned and projects on which they are working.
As we move forward into the next part of the school year, the staff at Floris continue to work together to provide the very best instruction for our students. This is done through strong collaborative teams where teachers share ideas, create common assessments for learning, and analyze student work and test data.
The use of best practices by all teachers enriches instruction and challenges students to learn at the highest levels. We also appreciate the support of our strong, involved parent community. Together, we make Floris a great school.
There are two upcoming events this month, along with four student holidays to mark your calendars:
- Friday, January 12th at 3:15 PM – 4th-grade strings concert
- Monday, January 15th – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, All FCPS schools are closed
- Thursday, January 25th – End of the 2nd quarter; 2-hour early dismissal
- Friday, January 26th – Student Holiday/Teacher Work Day
- Monday, January 29th – Student Holiday/Teacher Work Day
The second quarter is drawing to a close on January 25th, and marks the end of our first semester. Students are encouraged to set one or two realistic goals for next semester and to continue to work hard.
We wish you and your family all the best for 2018. Have a wonderful New Year!
