The Region 5 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Ms. Holly Walker has been named the new principal for Floris Elementary School.  Ms. Walker was previously the assistant principal at Poplar Tree Elementary School and had been in that position since 2014.

Prior to her assistant principal role at Poplar Tree Elementary School, Ms. Walker was an assistant principal at Union Mill Elementary School from August 2010-2014. During this time, she also served as an Extended School Year (ESY) principal in the summers of 2017 and 2019.  From 1993-2010, Ms. Walker taught multiple grade levels as a classroom teacher at Fox Mill ES, Floris ES, and Union Mill ES. Additionally, she served as the SOL Resource Teacher and Testing coordinator at Union Mill from September 2005-June 2008.

Ms. Walker has established herself as a talented educator and instructional leader during her 26 years of service to FCPS.  Over the course of her career, she has proven to be highly effective in building positive and collaborative partnerships with staff, colleagues, students, and parents.  She has worked closely with all stakeholders to build strong tier 1 instruction, effective collaborative teams, and a welcoming and culturally responsive environment. Ms. Walker has gained valuable leadership experience serving as the assistant principal of an FCPSOn school that supports multiple special education programs and established an Advanced Academics Center during her tenure.  As the assistant principal of Union Mill ES, Ms. Walker worked closely with all stakeholders as they underwent a significant renovation/addition.  At Poplar Tree ES, she spearheaded the implementation of the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program which extends volunteer opportunities for fathers and grandfathers to serve as positive male role models for all students.  Over the last decade, Ms. Walker has been a leader among her peers, serving on the Cluster 7 and Region 5 School-Based Administrator planning committee.  In this role, she has collaborated with other colleagues to create and deliver meaningful professional development that supports the division's Strategic Plan and Theory of Action.

Ms. Walker holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from George Mason University, a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from George Mason University, and an Administration and Supervision PreK-12 Endorsement.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Holly Walker as the new principal of Floris Elementary School.
