Welcome to Sixth Grade!

Our sixth graders are preparing for their transition to middle school and becoming avid problem solvers equipped with 21st century skills. At Floris, our students develop organizational skills in a safe and comfortable environment while growing as independent learners.

Furthermore, curriculum is differentiated to provide access to advanced academic curriculum and thinking strategies.  These are used to further close the gap for all learners and challenge students to reach their full potential through rigorous instructional activities.

In Language Arts, we dissect the English language and study the way Greek/Latin roots can aid in vocabulary acquisition.  Furthermore, rich discussion takes place around a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts.  Mathematics instruction builds upon problem solving and critical thinking skills through rich, real-world activities, while exposing our advanced learners to middle school content.  In Social Studies, we explore the complexities of human interactions throughout history by utilizing problem based learning projects and simulations.  Finally, Science provides an opportunity for our sixth graders to explore weather, space, and chemistry through hands-on experiments.
